The annual international forum “Ecumenical Social Week” (ESW) unites the resources of a community, authorities, mass media, social organizations, Churches, educators and youth organizations in an attempt to address relevant social issues, based on the common human values,  social teaching  of  the church and the sustainable development principles.

Within the forum we want to research and discuss various “facets” of human and community identity in the modern world. We will focus on several aspects, looking at them through the prism of interdisciplinary approach, and tackle  questions like:

Russia’s original invasion plan directed in particular at simultaneous seizure of Kyiv, Kharkiv and Odesa, with the aim to change power in Ukraine, has failed. The Russian side has regrouped the major part of its troops to eastern Ukraine with the aim to occupy the entire territory of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and to secure the land corridor to Crimea across the city of Mariupol (despite earlier statements that it had no territorial ambitions in Ukraine), preferably until 9 May. Ukraine’s coast of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov is blocked. In the meantime, Russia continues launching missile and bomb strikes on military and civilian infrastructure throughout Ukraine:

With the sound of sirens: Taizé brothers pray with UCU students Support Ukraine News With the sound of sirens: Taizé brothers pray with UCU students

https://warinua.ucu.edu.ua/news/with-the-sound-of-sirens-taize-brothers-pray-with-ucu-students/

Brothers from the Taizé international Christian community traveled to Lviv to show Ukrainians their support. On 4 May they prayed with students and people of Lviv in UCU’s University Church of the Holy Wisdom of God.

With their wartime visit, the Taizé brothers wanted to show their solidarity with all Ukrainians who suffer and to encourage the people who are helping those who were forced to leave their homes. Three brothers came from France to UCU. During the prayer service they explained how they expected to see here people depressed by the war, but instead were impressed by Ukrainians’ courage, endurance, and strength of spirit. The brothers came to Lviv during an air attack, as Russia fired cruise missiles at the city the evening of 3 May.

Support Ukraine

support-ukraine-1024x467

The war Russia initiated against Ukraine on February 24, 2022, is the most broadscale in Europe since World War II. The moment Putin’s army invaded Ukraine, Europe has changed. Our global security, values, and future are in grave danger.

Ukraine has proved its alliance with the democratic world many times. For Ukrainians, safeguarding democracy is above everything else. Now Ukraine needs help of other democratic countries to defeat the dictator of enourmous-sized country that poses a threat to the whole world.

The people of Ukraine are in urgent need of our help – and the time to act is now. Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, people are being forced to flee their homes. Families are being torn apart.

The people of Ukraine are incredibly grateful for the military and financial help provided by the world.
