6^th Ecumenical Social Week

“Diversity and Respect”

Lviv, October 1-8, 2013

For six years the Ecumenical Social Week, initiated by the Institute of Ecumenical Studies with the support of the Ukrainian Catholic University, National University “Lviv Polytechnic,” Lviv Regional State Administration, Lviv Regional Council and Lviv City Council, has gathered in Lviv representatives of churches, NGOs, the media, politicians, diplomats, teachers, officials and youth around topical issues and today’s challenges. Over eight days, the participants of the ESW discussed issues of respect for differences in Ukrainian society, based on international and domestic experience. During the presentations and discussions at various meetings and roundtables, special attention was paid to issues of social, cultural and religious diversity among people. International speakers shared with the participants a reflection of how differences enrich European countries and how this experience can be useful for Ukraine.

Workshop “The Balint Group” was held in Lviv

During the 6^th Ecumenical Social Week of October 3 a workshop for social workers was held on October 3, based on the methods ofthe Balint group. Psychologist,supervisor of social projects and programs Svitlana Belyaeva worked with the participants.

The partnership of the Ecumenical Social Week with other cities of Ukraine was discussed in Lviv

During the 6^th Ecumenical Social Week, the round table “Ecumenical Social Week: Five-Year Achievements and Prospects” was conducted on October 2 in Lviv.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the working groups from different cities of Ukraine: Halyna Bokhonko, deputy-director of the Institute of Ecumenical Studies, the Ukrainian Catholic University, Oleksandr Oliynyk, vice-president of the Association of Benefactors of Ukraine , Mariya Kandyba, coordinator of the Ecumenical Social Week, Tetyana Shapovalova, Director of Research Institute for Labour and Social Technologies of the V. Dal Eastern National University, an academic of the Academy of Economic Sciences of Ukraine, Dr. Yaryna Turchyn, Director of the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences at Lviv Polytechnic University.

Social visits of ESW participants to communities "Oselia" and "L'Arche-Ark"

The participants of the 5th Ecumenical Social Week on September, 26 visited community of mutual aid "Oselia" and "L'Arche-Ark" in Lviv.
